โ€œStop raising towards your end goal, start enjoying the journey, and be presentโ€ - Keely Woolley 2023

Introduction:

In the world of ambition and achievement, there exists a shadow, often lurking unnoticed but casting a long pall over the path to success. We've come to know it as "Imposter Syndrome," a persistent feeling of being a fraud despite evident success. Yet, as we delve into the intricate layers of this phenomenon, it raises the question: Is Imposter Syndrome a genuine psychological condition or a construct perpetuated by deep-seated societal biases?

Imposter Syndrom, Self-belief, Self-doubt

That nagging sense of inadequacy despite significant accomplishments, has long haunted ambitious individuals, especially women. But is it truly a psychological condition, or is it, in part, a manifestation of deeply rooted societal norms & expectations? The truth appears to be a blend of both.

Conscious & unconscious biases permeate our society, shaping perceptions & expectations. Subtle yet insidious gender biases often downplay women's achievements & reinforce feelings of inadequacy. When women receive less recognition & credit for their accomplishments, it can fan the flames.

Compounds this issue further. Women are often subjected to harsher judgment for their mistakes, while errors made by men are frequently overlooked or forgiven. This glaring double standard feeds self-doubt & magnifies the pressure on women to excel in every aspect of their lives

๐Ÿ”—

Society's fixation on external validation & unattainable standards of success plays a pivotal role in eroding self-belief. Ambitious women find themselves in a perpetual cycle of striving to prove their worth, often leaving little room for self-compassion & authenticity.
